Testsieger
Wie der Vorgänger ist die dritte Version des minis richtig flott, der Akku hält sehr lang durch. Neu ist der Fingerabdrucksensor. Damit lässt sich das Tablet entsperren und mit dem NFC-Chip fürs Bezahlen nutzen (derzeit nur in den USA). Das gute Display ist fast identisch mit dem des mini 2. LTE ist an Bord – aber nicht zum Telefonieren.
...Im vergangenen Jahr war die Rollenverteilung klar: Das iPad Air war für diejenigen gedacht, die ihr Tablet vor allem zu Hause nutzen, das gleichzeitig vorgestellte iPad mini 2 bot sich aufgrund des kleineren Displays vor allem für die Nutzung unterwegs an. Technisch bewegten sich die Modelle auf einem Niveau, Apple hatte sich also für zwei Flaggschiffe entschieden. In diesem Jahr sieht es hingegen völlig anders aus. Aus zwei Aushängeschildern ist eines geworden, die Neuauflage des iPad mini 3 darf getrost als Abrundung nach unten hin bezeichnet werden. Sieht man einmal vom Fingerabdrucksensor und dem hierzulande (noch) nutzlosen NFC-Chip ab, bieten die Kalifornier exakt das gleiche Gerät wie 2013. Grundsätzlich muss dies nicht schlecht sein, wie ein Blick auf die Diagramme zeigt. Im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz aus dem Android-Lager kann das iPad mini 3 in Sachen Leistung und Display mehr als mithalten, der 64-Bit-taugliche SoC dürfte auch in den kommenden Monaten völlig ausreichen....

Das Apple iPad mini 3 ist ein hervorragendes Tablet ohne gravierende Schwächen. Im Test zeigt es exzellente Bedienung, ein helles und scharfes Display und angenehm kompakte Ausmaße. Wer zum ersten Mal zu einem iPad mini tendiert, greift zu. Wer allerdings den direkten Vorgänger besitzt, bekommt zu wenig Mehrwert.
